WhatsApp channels – can’t join the waitlist

Recently a new feature appeared in WhatsApp – WhatsApp channels.

Currently, not everyone can create a channel. The official WhatsApp documentation advises to join the waitlist. I have spent some time right now, and also changed my main WhatsApp account to a business account – to no avail. I can’t join the waitlist

This is what I see under the “+” sign – only the option to find channels. There is no “join waitlist” option for me. (Note: this is the same on the business account – this photo is showing my secondary WhatsApp).

I’m posting this for everyone who is as stumped as me, and wants to join the waitlist – since this is a new huge social media plattform opportunity!

Note: I was surprised initially by how few channels there are, which makes this opportunity big! Then I realized that it’s split up by country – but still I feel that there’s a huge opportunity in the making.

I would even go so far as to purchase a US phone number in order to add a channel in the US, and other important markets.

The official WhatsApp documentation link leads me to this page, which just gives me the option to Open WhatsApp.

So this is not very useful … if anyone has found a “secret” way to join the waitlist, let me know in the comments below this article.

I can now create a channel, in fact I can create several channels (I have created three)

Here is how to create a channel:

Click the + button, and select “Create channel”. You will be able to add the channel name, and a description.
